Why We Intentionally Stay Small
By Tonya Kipe, Founder & Executive Director of Kipe Academy
One question I hear often is, "When are you going to get really big?" It's a fair question.
In today's world, success is often measured by growth. Bigger buildings. More locations. Hundreds of students.
But I've learned something that continues to shape every decision we make.
Growth should never come at the expense of relationships. At Kipe Academy, we intentionally remain small because being known matters. When our classrooms are small, teachers notice when a student seems quieter than usual. They celebrate the little victories that others might miss. They can adjust instruction, encourage confidence, and build genuine partnerships with families. That's difficult to do when children become numbers on a roster.
Choosing to stay small doesn't mean we lack vision. It means we're protecting what makes Kipe Academy special. We want every family to feel welcomed. Every student to feel seen. Every teacher to have the time to truly teach instead of simply manage.
If the day comes when more families need what we offer, we'll thoughtfully consider how to serve them while protecting the heart of our mission. Because at the end of the day, our goal isn't to become the biggest microschool.
Our goal is to become the place where children are known, challenged, encouraged, and inspired.
For us, that's success.
