Personalized Learning Doesn't Mean Learning Alone
By Tonya Kipe, Founder & Executive Director of Kipe Academy
Personalized learning has become one of those phrases that's used everywhere. But what does it actually mean? Some people imagine every child sitting alone in front of a computer working through individualized lessons. That's not what personalized learning looks like at Kipe Academy.
To us, personalized learning means recognizing that every child is unique. Some students grasp new concepts quickly. Others need more practice. Some love to talk through ideas. Others need time to think quietly before they're ready to share. Personalized learning simply means meeting students where they are while helping them continue to grow.
What's important is that they don't do it alone. Our students learn together. They collaborate. They encourage one another. They celebrate each other's successes. Older students often become role models for younger students, while younger students remind older ones what curiosity looks like. That's one of my favorite things about our community. Children discover that learning isn't a competition. It's something we experience together.
The goal has never been for every child to be exactly the same. The goal is for every child to become the best version of themselves. That's what personalized learning means to us.
