Why Kipe Academy Exists
By Tonya Kipe, Founder & Executive Director of Kipe Academy
People sometimes ask me why I started Kipe Academy.
The easy answer is that I wanted to open a school. The honest answer is much deeper than that.
After years in education, I kept asking myself a simple question: What do children truly need to thrive?
Of course they need to learn to read, write, solve math problems, and understand science. Those things matter. But they also need to feel safe, valued, capable, and connected. They need adults who believe in them. They need opportunities to discover who they are, not just what they can memorize.
I realized I wasn't dreaming about creating a different curriculum. I was dreaming about creating a different experience. That's how Kipe Academy was born.
Our mission is to inspire and empower and those aren't just words on our website. They guide every decision we make—from the way we welcome families to the projects our students complete and the relationships we build every day.
We're intentionally small because relationships matter.
We use hands-on learning because children remember what they experience.
We encourage leadership because every child has something valuable to contribute.
We celebrate growth because success looks different for every learner.
Kipe Academy exists because I believe education should help children discover who they are, not simply prepare them for the next test.
When children feel like they belong, amazing things happen. Confidence grows. Curiosity returns.Learning becomes meaningful again.
That's why Kipe Academy exists.
